Child Age Policy

No child under the age of twelve (12) years old may be left unattended (without a parent or legal guardian) at the library or any library sponsored event.  Children under the age of twelve (12) years old must be accompanied by an adult or sibling seventeen (17) years of age or older at all times while in the library or at library sponsored events.  If an adult sibling is watching a younger child the adult may be asked for proof of age in the form of a driver’s license or state issued ID.

In the event that an under-age child is in the library unaccompanied by an adult, the library staff will ask the child to call his or her parent to come and either stay with the child for the duration of the library visit, or pick the child up immediately.

When the parent arrives to pick up their child, the age policy will be explained, and the parent will be informed that if a violation of this policy occurs in the future, the police may be notified of child abandonment.  This policy applies whether it is before, during, or after library hours.

If any child under the age of twelve (12) is left at the library more than 30 minutes after the library has closed, the police will be notified and asked to take custody of the child until the parents are located.

Neither Moore County, nor any employee of Moore County, is responsible for the well-being, whereabouts, or safety of any child using the Moore County Library Facilities.  Moore County Library provides the safest possible environment for its patrons and their children, however, parents are responsible for their children at all times.
