Summer Reading Program 2019
Registration is June 3rd – June 7th at all three libraries.

The program is free and geared for preschool through 6th graders.  This year’s theme is    “A Universe of Stories” and will focus on our solar system and planets.

Programs will be three Wednesdays in June; June 12th, 19th, 26th, and                              one Wednesday in July; July 3rd.  There will be door prizes and performers every week.

The Sunray Program begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Sunray Baptist Church Gymnasium.
The Cactus Program begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Cactus Rec Center.
The Dumas Program begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Moore County Community Building.

The first week the Don Harrington Discovery Center will be here presenting KABOOM!   Oxygen, fuel, and an ignition source are all that is needed for this spine-tingling Science Live!  Children will be amazed at the coffee creamer fireballs, barking dog rocket reactions, and more. KABOOM! explores the science of combustion with demonstrations that will leave the children cheering for more.

The second week we will be having a special guest from the U.S. Forest Service.  Smokey Bear is celebrating a milestone birthday. Join us to wish Smokey Bear a Happy Seventy-fifth Birthday!  Since 1944, Smokey Bear has taught millions of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires and protecting our planet.

The third week we will be exploring UFOs – Unusual Flying Objects! Tommy Brooks, Coordinator of the Moore County Emergency Management will be bringing out the drone and taking a picture of the Summer Reading attendees.   Brandon Cox, Moore County Airport Manager, will be talking about his duties as Airport Manager and telling about some of the famous people he has meet at the Moore County Airport.  We are trying to work out getting Rico Aviation to bring out an air ambulance.   The children will get to talk to these special guests and ask any questions they might have.

The fourth week Harlin the Magician will be returning to Moore County.  Harlin preformed for our Summer Reading Program several years ago and is coming back to delight a new generation of readers with his amazing skills and tricks.
